Breakfast Club meets Thursday

The New York State Department of Transportation Breakfast Club will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Native Pride in Irving.

Genealogical Society meets Wednesday

CASSADAGA — The Wednesday speaker for the Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will be Amanda M. Shepp, MLS. Shepp is the coordinator of special collections and archives, and senior assistant librarian at the Daniel A. Reed Library at the State University of New York at Fredonia. She will provide information on updates to the special collections and current ongoing projects at SUNY Fredonia. She may add an extra story or two from the archives. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m., speakers begins at 7 at the Cassadaga American Legion on Maple Avenue. Meetings are open to the public.

Schall performs

Sunday at Stockton church

STOCKTON — On Sunday May 20 at 11 a.m., Dan and Linda Schall from Zelienople. Pa. will provide a concert at the Stockton Community Church. In addition to a concert of singing, a message will be given to all. The program is open to all, and everyone is welcome.

Ascension Day services Thursday

Ascension Day will be observed at St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe, Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania will be officiating and preaching.

Ascension Day is recognized as the 40th day after Jesus’ Resurrection and the day that Jesus’ body ascended into heaven. It is considered a principal feast day in the Episcopal Church.

Rowe was ordained Bishop of Northwestern Pennsylvania in 2007 and was the youngest bishop in the Episcopal church for almost twelve years.He became the provisional Bishop of Western New York in 2019.

He is active in the National Church, serving on several committees. As well as a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary. Rowe has a Ph.D. in organizational learning and leadership from Gannon University in Erie, Pa.

All are invited to attend the service at St. John’s. There will be a reception following the service. St. John’s is located at West Fourth and Lark streets in Dunkirk.

plans bake sale

VILLENOVA — The Villenova Burial Association will be holding their sixth annual “Love Remembered” bake sale in the entryway of the South Dayton Supermarket on Saturday, May 27 beginning at 9 a.m. There will be dozens of homemade goodies, including pies, bread, cookies, candy, cupcakes and cakes. There will also be a donation box.

The fundraiser theme is a symbol of remembering those held close in our hearts during this long weekend of remembrance. All proceeds will help defray the maintenance and operating costs of the Villenova Cemetery. The event also offers an opportunity for members of the community to learn about the association and how they might help in efforts to maintain and preserve the over 200-year-old cemetery.
