Club Associates meet in Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK — The regular monthly meeting of the Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates was recently held at the Silver Creek Overseas Veterans Post. Jim Lisa welcomed the group to his Post.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for deceased club members.

Secretary Jim Pryll read the minutes of the previous meeting, followed by a financial report by treasurer, Tom Halicki.

Guests included Dean Salsman of Forestville.

Discussion was held on two new bills before the State Legislature. Sen. James Skoufis of Newburgh calls the “New York nearly 100 year old alcohol laws among the strictest and most antiquated in the country.” Highlights of the bill would expand the hours of liquor store sales on Sundays, special permits for bars to remain open on Jan. 1 from 4 to 8 a.m., and modify the “200 foot”, and the “500 foot” rules. It would also adjust fees for state manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers, among other changes.

Another bill sponsored by Assemblyman Harry Bronson of Rochester allows retail beer sales between the hours of 3 and 8 A.M. on Sundays. How these bills will affect the clubs remains to be seen.

The next scheduled meeting of the Club Associates will be September 24th at the Sheridan Vfw, Route 20, in Sheridan.

Reminders will be sent to clubs early in the month.
