Bike tour group in city Thursday

Members of a women’s-only bike tour company are on a 33-day cross country bike tour of the Underground Railroad and making an overnight stop in Dunkirk on Thursday. The group is following the trail of thousands of freedom seekers from years ago. It will honor the bravery of those who fled bondage and those who provided shelter and food, as we follow the north star through seven states on our way through the U.S. to Canada.

Congregation sets Sunday service

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua, at 222 Temple St. in Fredonia, holds a Sunday Worship Service at 11 a.m., both at their physical location and on Zoom. For those wishing to join us virtually, please visit https://tinyurl.com/caluucnc. Click on “Worship Service” on the date you are attending and scroll down for the Zoom link. For those attending the in-person service, please follow the driveway and park in the lower lot behind the building.

The theme for June is Delight. On Sunday, the Rev. Sally Hamlin will lead worship service on “What Flowers Mean in Difficult Times,” and we will celebrate the centennial of our annual Flower Communion.

Unitarian Minister Norbert Capek created the first Flower Communion to help alleviate the misery and suffering of the people of Prague following the devastations of World War I. For the Czech people of his congregation there had to be a creative way to lift their spirits out of their drab difficult lives. This centennial anniversary of the Unitarian Flower Communion will offer us some perspective on our own troubling times as we let the beauty of flowers remind us that beauty can be found all around us.

If you are attending in person, please bring a flower to share. If you’re attending on Zoom, please have a flower, bud or plant to share via Zoom.

Following the service, join us for coffee, tea, and light refreshments.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua strives to be a vibrant, welcoming, multigenerational, diverse community enlivened by the power of radical love. We are a congregation that nurtures acceptance, spirituality, and growth while guided by Unitarian Universalist Principles.
