‘Midway’ documentary
showing tonight
MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua Town Historical Society will meet today at the Carlson Community Center in Mayville Lakeside Park, 50 W. Lake Road, Mayville, at 7 p.m. It will be streaming a documentary on Midway Park, “Trolley Park: Midway Memories,” and sharing our recollections of summers past. Please note the change in venue and join us for this delightful look at the park’s past.
Library offers program updates
SINCLAIRVILLE — The previously scheduled performance of CVCS Jazz Ensemble to be at the Sinclairville Free Library on Thursday, June 22 has been canceled. The library apologizes for any inconvenience. The library will be closed on Monday in recognition of Juneteenth.
An online book club discussion of “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald will be held via Zoom on Monday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. Please contact the library at info@sinclairvillelibrary.org for a link to join the discussion. Churches to hold joint
services for two weeks
Park Methodist Church of Sinclairville, Park Methodist Church of Cassadaga and Bemus Point Methodist Church will be holding a joint worship service Sunday, June 18, at Lakeside Park in Bemus Point at 10 a.m. After the service, attendees are invited to stay for baptisms and a free lunch. Those who come are asked to bring a lawn chair.
On Sunday, June 25, those same three churches will hold a joint service at 10 a.m. at Park Church, Sinclairville’s new building the Bridge. After the service will be a meal. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass. The meat, beverage and table service will be provided.
Barcelona’s history
is Monday topic
SHERIDAN — When you travel Route 5 through Barcelona, you cannot miss an old cylindrical lakeside structure that looms next to the road. The Sheridan Historical Society invites the public to its location at 7 p.m. Monday to learn more about Barcelona, An informative presentation will be given by Cristie Herbst, president of the Chautauqua County Historical Society. Among other details, she will describe how Barcelona became an important port on the Great Lakes and what led to its decline.
The Sheridan Historical Society is located at Route 20 and Center Road. Refreshments will be served following the presentation.
VFW Auxiliary
discusses donations
SHERIDAN — The June meeting of the Sheridan VFW Auxiliary was held at the post on Monday. Six members were present. The minutes of our last meeting and the treasurer’s report were presented.
During the last month flowers were planted at the Post by the auxiliary and we participated in distributing poppies for Memorial Day. In addition, members were present for the service at the Sheridan Pioneer Cemetery on Memorial Day, for which the group also provided a wreath for a recently deceased veteran.
This month the donation will be to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park/ Family Museum. There was a successful bake sale last month with another beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday at the post.
The next meeting will be July 11 at Aunt Millie’s restaurant.
