New Horizons band to play in Sheridan

SHERIDAN — The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present a festive summer concert on the lawn of the Sheridan Town Commons, 2775 Rt 20 in Sheridan. The music will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Under the direction of Dr. Katherine McKay, the members of the band range in age from 50 and up; the size of the band ranges from 30 and up and comes from various towns across our area.

The New Horizons program is built on the idea that we can return to an instrument we used to play, or we can learn to play an instrument we always wanted to try. With lessons and spring and fall concerts based at SUNY Fredonia, members benefit from the teaching of music majors at the college and from the involvement of area retired music instructors.

The concert will be outdoors, so bring a comfortable chair, sunglasses or sweater, depending, and enjoy a relaxing summer evening listening to a variety of music, from marches, to show tunes, to pieces that may transport you to a tropical vacation destination.

Refreshments, including hotdogs and drinks, will be provided by the Sheridan Historical Society, and the Sheridan VFW Auxiliary will hold a bake sale. Proceeds will benefit those organizations.
