Leon Town Picnic set for Aug. 19

The town of Leon will host their annual town picnic/fire equipment display on Saturday, Aug. 19 beginning at noon with lunch served starting at 1 p.m.. The event is open to all past and present town of Leon residents. This event is sponsored by the Leon Fire Commissioners in conjunction with the Leon Town Board, the Leon Historical Society, and the Leon Fire Department and Auxiliary.

Provided will be BBQ chicken, hot dogs, chips/snacks, water, lemonade, iced tea, paper products, silverware, and condiments. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass. Lawn chairs are encouraged.

There will be fire equipment displays, games for children/adults, music by D.J., a Penny Royal display with Fred Milliman, Outback display with Erik Cullen, and historical society displays. There will also be a special presentation entitled, “Love Letters of a Civil War Soldier from Leon” by Tina Scherman to begin at approximately 2:30. A gift/basket raffle and 50-50s will round out the festivities.

All residents of Leon (past and present) are encouraged to take part in the opportunity to connect, or reconnect, with their community.

Willowbrook Park Cemetery group meets

The monthly meeting of the Board of Willowbrook Park Cemtery will be today at the Mackowiak Funeral Home on Doughty Street in Dunkirk at 7 p.m., not 10 a.m. as previously stated.

Sons of American Revolution meet Saturday

The Sons of the American Revolution will meet at the Stockton Hotel on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. This will be a fellowship meeting with no planned program. Anyone wishing to present a short program may do so. Members will order lunch from the menu. Anyone interested in the war for independence is invited to attend.

Dunkirk health screening set for Aug. 19
