Quilt show set for Sept. 9

WESTFIELD — A “30 Years of Love and Warmth Quilt Show” by the Westfield Quilters’s Guild has been scheduled. Come and see the beautiful quilts from the last 30 years! There will be a special exhibition of antiques and modern quilts hot off the sewing machine! The show will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at the First Presbyterian Church, 49 S. Portage St., Westfield. There is a $5 admission fee that includes two tickets for the raffle quilt.

Food Policy Council meets Tuesday

CASSADAGA — The Chautauqua County Food Policy Council will be meeting on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Park United Methodist Church, 25 Maple Ave. in Cassadaga. This meeting is open to the public. Farm Heritage Days

this weekend

NORTH EAST, Pa. — Enjoy North East is proud to present Farm Heritage Days, a mega market and two-day celebration of agriculture from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Gibson and Heard Parks.

The Axe Women Loggers of Maine, a team of world-champion choppers, logrollers and axe throwers, will perform three shows daily at noon, 3 and 5 p.m.

In between those shows, listen to country music by Dan Baney, classic rock by Grand Larceny and bluegrass by Generic Grass. Sunday afternoon, stop by for line dancing lessons and then stick around for Night Shift and try out those new moves.

Check out the tractor and farm equipment show noon to 5 p.m. in Heard Park. (Open to all ages and models, no registration required.)

Saturday there’s hands-on science fun for kids from STEM & Vine and Sunday a petting zoo with ducks, rabbits, chickens, piglets, goats and more from Pony Parties LLC.

Check out homesteading demos daily and live chainsaw sculpture artist on Sunday.

Nearby at 25 Vine St., the North East Historical Society and North East Arts Council will host an Open House from 1-7 p.m. Saturday featuring art by Ross Peters and a photography show featuring numerous local amateur and professional pieces that showcase North East, its people, places, nature and agriculture.

Seniors plan another casino trip

With a little help from their friends, specifically The OBSERVER, Dunkirk Senior Center and the Herbert Star residents, the Brocton-Portland Seniors hosted a Seneca Allegheny Casino bus trip on July 31.

President Robin Carr offered cool drinks and snacks in addition to extra fun on the return trip home.

The next Seneca Allegheny Casino trip is planned for Monday, Aug. 28 and is called the End of Summer Casino Bus Trip. The $39 fare includes roundtrip bus transportation, $25 free play and additional free play and a $5 meal credit. Those interested in having a fun day should contact Robin Carr at 716-230-4081 no later than Aug. 11 to reserve a seat.
