Paws For Laughter set for Sept. 16

Paws For Laughter is a comedy show featuring five local comedians telling jokes to benefit Lakeshore Humane Society. It will take place at Downtown Brew at 13 Water St. in Fredonia on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 and there will be prize drawings after the show. All profits made go directly to Lakeshore Humane Society.

Library hosts local author

The Darwin R. Barker Library, located at 7 Day St., Fredonia, will host local author Catherine D’Agostino on Thursday at 3 p.m. The author has recently written “Braided Lies: A Thousand Islands Castle Mystery,” a novel set in Alexandria Bay, N.Y. The book will be available for purchase.

Native plant sale this month

On Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Chautauqua Marina and the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will be co-hosting a native plant sale, with proceeds benefitting the Conservancy and Chautauqua Lake.

A variety of native plants will be available for purchase from local vendors including Royal Fern Nursery, Turnbull Nursery, Westfield Nursery, Brigiotta’s, and Peterson Farm. Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy Conservationist Carol Markham will be on hand to answer questions about native plant selection and native garden design. Admission is free, and no RSVPs are needed.

The event will be rain or shine at Chautauqua Marina at 104 West Lake Road in Mayville. Guided educational lakeside buffer walks will also be offered, weather permitting. Fall is a great time to plant, and native plants can often be difficult to find locally, making this event a great opportunity for one-stop shopping for plants that are native to our area.

Ukulele group gathers Saturday

Fredonia Ukulele will be Saturday at Domus Fare Restaurant, 41 W. Main St. Fredonia, from 6 to 8 p.m. Play immediately at all ability levels. No experience necessary. The goal is to have fun and to make music. Ukuleles provided or bring your own. Play, sing, or just enjoy listening. Come and go as you please.
