Brocton-Portland Seniors meet

BROCTON — Brocton-Portland Seniors met July 25 at Brocton Legion with 52 members in attendance. George Travis led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Rose Giambra’s prayer of thanks. Lucy Hurley entertained with her voice, songs and keyboard tunes. Luncheon of hamburgers and hot dogs by Tom DeJoe doing the grill, with members dishes and desserts, was so good.

A committee of Rita Bennett, Laurel and Rosie Giambra, Denise Griffin, Robin Carr and Sue Schrantz had tables set up in red, white and blue. Secretary minutes and Treasurer’s reports were approved.

Pauline Johnson is at Chautauqua Nursing Rehabilitation Center. Card of thanks was signed to Dave Hazelton and Brocton Rescue for their help recently.

Chuck Cichon described the Veterans 4 Christ – a not for profit Brocton Based organization group- that meets at 9 W. Main St. The group helps with food, clothes, and problems of any kind.

Ahira Library has Thursday concert 6:30 in Ryckman Park. Birthdays were Terry Freeman, Christina Galardo, Linda Burton, Elaine Frederickson, Beverly Strawser, Delores Fairbanks, Marcia Zmuda and guest, Lynn DiPalma.

Rose Giambra and Rita Bennett won the door prizes followed by seven raffle winners. The next meeting is Aug. 29. Deb Messere Annabelle Hahn, Tom DeJoe, Robin Carr, Sue Schrantz, and Denise Griffin are the committee. Members are to bring personal table service and dish to pass. Bingo will be played as there was no program announced.

The annual meeting of Willowbrook Park Cemetery will be on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 62 on Central Avenue in Dunkirk.

Library plans forum on addiction

BROCTON — The Ahira Hall Memorial Library will be hosting HEALing Communities and Combat Addiction at 6:30 p.m. today. Join us for an open forum discussion on what services are available for individuals and families effected by addiction, and how to reduce drug use in our local communities. Narcan training will be available free of charge during the meeting.
