Author to be at

museum Saturday

Rick Barram, a retired history and theater arts teacher, and is the author of the “72nd NY Infantry in the Civil War: A History and Roster.” The author will be available for questions, discussion, and book signing on the lawn of the Darwin R. Barker Museum on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the Fredonia Farm Festival.

Barram also wrote “Dear Uncles: The Civil War Letters of Arthur McKinstry, a Soldier in the Excelsior Brigade.” In the book, he compiled letters sent from Private McKinstry to his family and to the local newspaper, giving readers a detailed look at the young soldier’s experiences during the war. The correspondences presented in the book provide fascinating insights into the private’s opinions on his commanders, comrades, and rations, his reactions to national events, and even his requests to his mother for more frequent letters.

Churches to hold

SINCLAIRVILLE — Park Church of Sinclairville and Cassadaga, as well as Bemus Point Methodist Church, will hold a joint service Sunday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at Minckler Commons, in downtown Sinclairville. After the service a free chicken barbecue lunch will be served and baptisms will take place.

Anderson-Lee Library sets book sale

SILVER CREEK — The Friends of Anderson-Lee Library in Silver Creek is announcing the dates for the annual Used Book Sale. There will be books for everyone.

The three-day sale will be held during normal library hours on Thursday, Sept. 14, and continue on Friday, Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16. The bag sale will start at noon Saturday.

Those people who are registered members of the Friends of the Anderson-Lee Library can get a jump start on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

All proceeds from this sale are used to enhance library collections, equipment, and programs.

The Friends of Anderson-Lee Library is comprised of community members who support the local library by becoming registered members. Membership is ongoing and more information about becoming a Friend can be obtained by calling 934-3468 or by stopping by the library on Main Street in Silver Creek.
