Amateur radio club names new

board member

Dunkirk resident Paul Fafinski has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club. His three-year term of office was confirmed at a recent meeting of club.

He volunteered in the elected position and hopes to help the NCARC expand their membership as well helping continue the tradition of Amateur Radio serving the north county. He became a “ham” radio operator in 2021 and holds 2 FCC Licenses, one for Amateur Radio and one for GMRS communications. Fafinski uses his communications skills to connect with people both locally and around the world via radio.

The Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club collaborates with both the Chautauqua County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) and Chautauqua County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) in providing radio operators and equipment in the event government agencies and community service organizations requiring additional support during emergencies. The NCARC is an affiliated club of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

The Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the SUNY Fredonia Incubator at 214 Central Ave. in Dunkirk. The meeting is open to all interested in radio communication and assistance is provided in achieving an amateur radio license issued by the Federal Communication Commission. Historical Society plans Amish Crawl

LEON — An “Amish Crawl” is an open invitation to everyone to travel around from site to site and visit the different sites promoted by the Amish Trail. The Leon Historical Society is presenting a program by the Amish ladies demonstrating the steps necessary to make a quilt. The display will be set up in the old church and the Amish ladies will be happy to explain the process to visitors. Please come and enjoy. It takes place Sept. 9.

Also, stop in at the Leon Historical Society’s Museum or Church and grab a map showing all the Amish and other area shops on the Trail, and how to find them. The Historical Society received an Amish made quilt that is on display at the church and we are selling tickets on it for $5 each or three tickets for $10. The drawing will take place on December 10, 2023 at our Annual Christmas Program at the 1836 Church.

Amish Baked Goods will be available every Saturday in the Church Gazebo in the front lawn.
