Dom Polski hails

August picnic

It was a wonderful family picnic held at the Dom Polski Club Aug. 13. The festivities began when members signed in for door prize drawings picked later in the day and were shown exceptional appreciation when they attended the picnic after a three-year absence due to COVID.

Attendees were treated to Master Griller Kurt Wolnik’s expertise grilling up hot dogs, burgers and cheeseburgers. The menu also consisted of baked beans; macaroni, potato and pasta salads; sausage patties with peppers and onions; delicious vegetable beef soup, not to mention a very large variety of desserts. Throughout the day a cornhole tournament was held in addition to water balloon toss and Dom Polski traditional black bag hula hoop toss game that was enjoyed and won by all.

A great big shout-out to the following including Directors and Board members: Lisa Kozlowski, Tim Gotowka, Lori Richardson, Sarah Sobilo, Sue Kaus, Wolnik, Joan Woods, Don Thurston, Paul Briggs, Melissa Meyer and Larry Grzegorewski. Special thanks to Lisa, Lori, Sarah, Paul, Christine and all who gave of their time and talents. Well done!

Some upcoming events at the Dom Polski Club include a Couples Golf Tourney, Sept. 9; Polish Triathlon, Oct. 14; Meat Raffle, Nov.11. Dom Polski is at 179 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk. Call the Club at 716-366-4443 for information on upcoming events.

Auxiliary hosts

successful events

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held their summer “dish-to-share” get-together on Aug. 8 with 17 senior members attending. Prayer was given before dinner by Chaplain Paula Pattison.

There was a great variety of foods, and conversation was enjoyed by all. A short informal meeting followed the dinner. The gathering for the Johnny Fessenden Ball Fields dedication was well attended by his family nd friends. It was a nice ceremony, and the family was very happy with the coffee and cookie reception that followed.

The Parking Lot dance held on July 16 was enjoyed by many from the Post and community, it may become a yearly event. Unit 1280’s famous Pie and Desserts sales during the Son’s Cruise Nights have gone well.

Upcoming events include a take-out only Chicken barbecue on Sunday September from noon until sold out; the 8th District Fall Conference on Sept. 10 in Bliss; an Oktoberfest party in early October, and our annual Vendor Show on Oct. 28. It was noted that the Unit has three “celebrations of life” luncheons scheduled in August for Post families. The evening ended with a prayer from the chaplain, remembering our troops, a thank you for a great evening, and safe travels home for all.

Starting at $3.50/week.
