Can and bottle drive Saturday

The Blessed Mary Angela Holy Name Society is announcing its last can and bottle drive of the season. Collection will take place on Saturday in the St. Hedwig Church Roberts Road parking lot from 9 a.m. until noon. In appreciation for the public’s support the Holy Name Society will be serving complimentary hot dogs starting at 10 a.m. The Holy Name Society would also like to thank Marcus Promber and Can Kings for their loyal support of their can drives in 2023 and looking forward to working with Can Kings in the future.

9/11 ceremony planned for city

of Dunkirk

The city of Dunkirk Fire Department and the Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Local 616 will be holding its annual 9/11 Ceremony on Monday at 9 a.m. at Fire Headquarters at 311 Eagle St. The public is invited to attend.

Depot part of Amish crawl event

SOUTH DAYTON — Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees can tour the South Dayton Depot as part of the Amish Crawl.

From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. the Depot is highlighting former Mayor Larry Zollinger. He will share stories and events from early railroad days as well as from early South Dayton times.

Check out the freight room’s original 1875 walls and floor. Take pictures of the Robert Redford Ticket window. Enjoy former Station Agent William Neubeck’s career memorabilia from 1948 to 1980. Food pantry open on Sept. 16

On Saturday, Sept. 16, The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, ZIP code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.

Brush pickup

The village of Fredonia will be picking up limbs and yard waste beginning Monday. Collection will continue until every village street has been completed. Bags and brush are collected separately by different crews.

All items for collection must be at the curb no later than 7 Monday morning. In no case will there be repeat collection of areas completed. All yard waste must be bagged or in barrels. Residents are encouraged to use biodegradable bags or barrels and all limbs and brush must be tied with twine.

Limbs and brush must be cut no longer than 4 feet in length with bundles being no larger than 18 inches in diameter. Bundles and bags are limited to 65 pounds in weight. There is no collection of loose material. No loose leaves will be picked up. Residents are reminded that they can bring yard waste to 176 Eagle St. No bags or containers shall be left behind.
