Village Board schedules special meeting

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Village Board will hold a brief public meeting on Thursday at 4 p.m. to call for and set the public hearing date to consider an application to the Office of Community Renewal for Community Development Block Grant funds for a private entity — 5 & 20 Spirits and Brewing Inc. — to expand their operations in Westfield.

Walk to Remember set for Oct. 8

The C.O.P.E. Walk to Remember will take place on Sunday, Oct. 8 beginning at the Harvest Chapel Church, 39 Matteson St., Fredonia. The meeting time is at 11:30 a.m., with the walk following at noon. The event ends at the memory garden. The walk is in memory of Justin Matteson, Zachary Whitcher and Elise Hupcej. It honors the children who have lost a parent to opioid addiction by imprisonment, death or abandonment.

Sponsorship and support from the community is appreciated. The C.O.P.E. organization helps children overcome the loss of a parent from drugs. For details, contact Bill at 716 680-1121 or Kristy at 716 410-5723.

Brocton-Portland Seniors plan events

BROCTON — Brocton-Portland Seniors met Tuesday at Brocton Legion, with President Robin Carr welcoming 42 members and one guest.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Doug Chatley with Shane West’s prayer of thanks.

The committee of West, Tom DeJoe, Kathy Peters, Linda Riley, Margaret Jagoda, Rita Bennett and Linda Riley set the tables in Autumn clever centerpieces and set up the tureen luncheon.

The legion is holding a corn hole game Saturday, Oct. 7. On Oct. 18, the annual Rosary Society buffet at St Dominic’s Church in Westfield will take place for $7 each, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 pm. West Portland Church is holding its annual Apple Butter Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 14.

The community Brocton Arch Festival is Saturday, Oct. 21. Tri-Church is holding its annual ham dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28.

There is an Allegany casino trip for $39 on Oct. 23. Call Robin Carr for reservations at 716-230-4081. A trip to Made in America, Baker Memory Church, Vidlers, Rosie Ice Cream, plus, with lunch included for $79 will be Oct. 30. Members must contact Carr for details by Oct. 10.

Birthdays were Rita Stonefoot, Ruth Durogi, Shirley Wolnik, Betty Erick, Evonne Hennebery and George Travis. Two door prize winners, five Raffle winners and nine Fall table centerpiece winners. The next meeting will be on Halloween, Oct. 31, with a costumes and hats contest. This is a catered meal. Sign up with Olive Becker by Oct. 24. The meeting ended with the Chinese auction by Kathy Peters.

Club Associates holds meeting

SHERIDAN — The Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates recently held their first regular meeting of the season at the Sheridan VFW, Route 20. Vice Commander Brian Schroeder welcomed the large group to his Post.

After the pledge of allegiance, and a moment of silence for deceased members, roll calls of officers and clubs were taken. All member clubs were present.

Secretary Jim Pryll read the minutes of the previous meeting, and treasurer Tom Halicki gave the financial report. Motions were made and seconded and approved.

Guests included Pat Kibbe, Judy Perry, and Brenda Drummond of the Dunkirk Senior Center.

President Joe Rozen gave his report, and the schedule of upcoming meetings was announced.

Guest speaker was Chris Pinkoski of Revitalize Dunkirk. She spoke of the work of the organization with community gardens and beautification projects in the city. Her main topic was the loss of trees in Point Gratiot. Over 200 ash trees were lost in the park, and her group is working to replace them. She also mentioned a nature trail at the Point.

Schroeder spoke about a “Range Ranch,” which is land for veterans where they can enjoy nature as a form of therapy. A Warrior Relief Fund raffle will be held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Club events include a chicken and ribs dinner being held at the World War II Veterans Club on Sunday, a meat party at the J. Carter Knapp Post, 7 P.m., in Forestville on Oct. 7, and a gun raffle at the Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922 on Oct. 8.

The next meeting of the Club Associates will be on Oct. 22 at 10:30 A.M. at the World War II Veterans Club, 216 Lake Shore Dr. E. in Dunkirk. Any club member is invited to attend.
