Town Democrats doing meet, greet

Join the Fredonia Pomfret Democratic candidates for a Meet and Greet on from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Domus Fare, 41 W. Main St, Fredonia. There is no cost to attend, refreshments provided.

Auxiliary meets Tuesday in city

Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62 monthly meeting will be on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Post 62, 211 Central Ave. Membership dues for 2024 are now being accepted by mail, in person or online. Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month and all auxiliary members are encouraged to attend.

Barker Library announces upcoming programs

The Darwin R. Barker Library, located at 7 Day St., Fredonia is planning a number of events for the coming weeks, including:

The library will host a woodworking exhibition by Fredonia’s own Richard Gilman through Oct. 27. Handmade dulcimers, banjos and more will be on display during the library’s open hours. A reception in honor of the exhibitor will be held Saturday, Oct. 14 at noon with refreshments and a live folk music performance.

A creative writing workshop takes place today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Bring a pen or pencil and notebook. Explore different themes, play with words, meet other writers. No registration is required.

A Tree Identification Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. In the Library’s Steele Room, the presentation “Intro to tree I.D.” will be followed by a Forest Hills Cemetery tree walk as weather allows. Ages 12 and up.This is a free event, with registration required.

The Barker Historical Museum will present a free lecture, “Hallowed Ground, Honored Dead, History Unveiled on Friday Oct, 17 at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia. Dr. Catherine J. Ullman will discuss the customs and superstitions around death in 19th century America, highlighting burial practices, mourning fashion and grave robbers. On Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. the Barker Library Book Club will meet to discuss “Howard’s End.”

Boosters meet for London game

The Southern Tier Bills Booster Club will watch the Buffalo Bills vs Jackenville Jaguars game on Sunday at the Moniuszko Club, 262 Lake Shore Drive, Dunkirk. Game time is at 9:30 a.m. Breakfast will be perpared by the Moniusko Club starting at 9 a.m. till 10:30 a.m.

Flapjack Fundraiser set for Oct. 22

An Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser Event to support the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation’s Service Learning Mini-Grant Program will be Sunday, Oct. 22 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $10. There also will be a basket raffle at the event.

Auxiliary plans meat loaf dinner

The John T. Murray Post 1017 Auxiliary will be hosting a meatloaf dinner, on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. Take outs only. Dinner includes salad, bread mash potatoes, vegetable, meatloaf and dessert for a donation of $12. Tickets may be purchased at the pos or call Pat 716-341-1328. This fundraiser will help the auxiliary in their programs.

The Dunkirk Public Library, 546 Central Ave., has announced the following computer classes: Oct.10 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.: Ancestry Library Edition; Oct. 12 from 1 to 2 p.m : Android Phone Features; Oct. 17 from 1 to 2 p.m.: iPhone Features; Oct. 18 from 1 to 2 p.m.: E-readers and Tablets; Oct. 24 from 1 to 2 p.m.: Organizing Your Email; Oct. 25 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.: Ancestry Library Edition; Oct. 26 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.: iPads.
