Legion Auxiliary holds meeting

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 met Tuesday Oct. 10 and held an informal meeting with 12 members attending. In the absence of President Ranee Kaus, 1st Vice President Bev Speelberg ran the meeting. Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved with one correction.

Membership chairperson Sally Lawson is now accepting 2024 dues. They are $30, and can be paid by mail, or they can be dropped off at the Post. The Legion/Auxiliary/Son’s sponsored Oktoberfest went well, and the community was generous in their Cassadaga Food Pantry donations.

The Unit will be making dinner for the joint Legion/Auxiliary/SAL meeting Friday at Post 1280. Everything is ready for Unit 1280’s annual Vendor Showcase set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members of Unit 1280 will be out front of the Legion on Halloween handing out candy, fruit and books for all the “trick or treaters, during the village hours of 5 to 7 p.m. The Post is working on their Veterans Day activities, tabled until next meeting when we know what they want us to do. Future activities that include Decking the Halls on Nov. 26, and working with the Cassadaga village for the Winterfest in February.

Sierra Club backs area candidates

Seven candidates running for office in Chautauqua County have received the endorsement of the Sierra Club Niagara Group. They include: Mayor Eddie Sundquist; County Legislature candidates Susan Parker, Amy Thompson, Braiden McElhaney, and Nevin Eklund. Also endorsed are Dunkirk At-Large Council Member Nick Weiser and First Ward Council Member Natalie Luczkowiak. They go on to say “We encourage you to vote this fall for those candidates whose values and goals are in alignment with those of the Sierra Club Niagara Group.”
