Veterans Day run, walk set at JCC

SUNY Jamestown Community College’s Veterans and Military Aligned Student’s Club is hosting a Veterans Day 5K run/walk on Saturday.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at the Jamestown Campus Physical Education Complex parking lot, with the race starting at 11 a.m.

Cost to participate is $10 for students and veterans and $15 for community members. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Register online at runsignup.com/Race/NY/Jamestown/VeteranDay5K.

Proceeds front the 5K support JCC’s Veterans Scholarship Fund and club activities.

Zentangle class set for Saturday

SINCLAIRVILLE – Basic Zentangle class with Brenda Nickerson will be offered at the Sinclairville Free Library on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. All materials will be provided for participants to learn the Zentangle Method of drawing.

This is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns called tangles. The class is for both beginners and those who are already familiar with the drawing method. The library is located at 15 Main St., and information about upcoming events is available on the website www.sinclairvillelibrary.org. The library will be closed on Friday in honor of Veterans Day and will also be closed Nov. 23 to 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Book Shop

seeking volunteers

The Book Shop welcomed several dozen youth from the community to participate in Start Your Personal Library. Each child was provided a voucher to select four books free of charge, to start their own personal home library. Additional books could be purchased for ten cents each.

The Book Shop is open three afternoons a week, Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only the best used and new books are placed for sale. Aside from a wide range of children’s and teen’s books, The Book Shop’s inventory includes fiction, non-fiction, SiFi, Romance, DIY, Self-help, Spiritual, Mystery, Westerns, Biography, Cookbooks, and vintage books. Hardcover books sell for seventy-five cents and paperbacks are fifty cents.

The Book Shop, located at 319 Washington Ave., Dunkirk (at the Rural Ministry north entrance) is interested in working with schools and community organizations to implement and encourage students to begin creating their own personal library.

The Book Shop also welcomes parents to bring children in and pursue their own personal interests. We are also seeking volunteers and book donations. Please call 716-366-1787. Chautauqua County Rural Ministry is a Community Partner of the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County.

Sons of Revolution gathers Saturday

STOCKTON – The Chautauqua chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet this Saturday at the Stockton Hotel at 12:30 p.m. Elections will be held for officers for 2024. John Sipos will speak on the History of Thanksgiving. Members will order lunch from the menu. Anyone interested in the war for independence is welcome to attend. Spouses are also welcome.
