Darwin R. Barker Library and Museum presents oral history workshop
The Darwin R. Barker Library and Museum, 7 Day St., Fredonia, are excited to announce the soft launch of their new oral history kit program, “Shared, Spoken and Sung: Fredonia’s Oral Histories.”
This is a collaborative effort between staff and volunteers. Free kits will be available to all Barker Library patrons to check out, which contain a book, a quick start guide, various consent forms and a high-quality easy-to-use digital recorder. Oral histories are one of the most powerful research artifacts held by historical institutions, as they capture the heart and soul of everyday citizens. One doesn’t have to be an oral history professional to help gather these stores. For those new to the practice of oral history, come learn about what oral history is and does, as well as how to conduct an oral history interview. A free workshop will be offered in the Library’s Steele Room on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Free kits will be available to patrons to check out. Information gained during an oral history does not need to be shared with the public. Space is limited, so there is an option to call 716 672-2114 to reserve a spot at the workshop. Kits can be picked up at other times in the library.
This program is funded by a grant from the North Chautauqua Community Foundation.
