Sons of Legion

meet Tuesday

BROCTON – The Sons of the American Legion, Squad 434, Brocton will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday. The meeting is at the Brocton Legion starting at 7 p.m. Dues for 2024 are required by Jan. 1. Dues may be paid at the Brocton Legion during business hours.

County department closing for hour Friday

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Department of Finance located in the Gerace Office Building in Mayville will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. Friday.

This includes Treasury, Real Property Tax, Purchasing, Budget, Insurance, and Payroll divisions.

Any member of the public wishing to make transactions related to taxes, sewer payments, bail bonds, public administration of estates, or certificates of residency are asked to visit the office before noon or after 1 p.m. on this day.

Land Bank meets Wednesday

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Land Bank Corporation (CCLBC) will hold its Monthly Board Meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday in person, at the Gerace Office Building in Mayville.

The public is welcome to attend. The meeting will be held in Room 331 on the 3rd floor of the Gerace Office Building. The monthly meetings are conducted to discuss business associated with the land bank’s programs, acquisition and potential sale of property by CCLBC and other official business as required (agendas will be provided at the meetings). The press, public and other stakeholders are welcome to attend.

United Seniors

meet today

The United Seniors had their meeting Nov. 13 at the Kosciuszko Club, Twenty-nine members were present. The seniors had a delicious meal consisting of turkey, stuffing, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, gravy on the side, tossed salad, and lots of yummy pies.

The caterer was Jill Hudson. She personally made a great assortment of pies. She was thanked for the wonderful luncheon.

At every meeting, everyone stands and says the “Pledge of Allegiance” to America, and sings “God Bless America.” An Invocation is offered.

Birthdays for this month were: John Binko, Rose Cerrie, Patricia Gloss, Jane Penhollow, Carol Portman, Jeri Wiedenhoffer.

Thanks to John Binko for lending the portable microphone/speaker. Minutes from the last meeting were read by Robin Carr. The treasurer’s report was given. Anyone is welcome to join the United Seniors. The fee is $5 for the year.

December is the last month that meetings take place, with January and February skipped. Meetings will resume March 1. Send all money for each luncheon, $15 to Evonne Hennebery, P.O. Box 706, Dunkirk, N.Y. 14048. Today’s meal will be baked chicken, a variety of vegetables, and surprise desserts. Thanks to everyone bringing desserts.

The group meets the second Monday of the month at the Kosciuszko Club, 252 Nevins street, Dunkirk, at 11:30 am. Members are looking forward to having lots of new people join this club. Recent new members are Carol Portman and Julie Porternash. After each meal, bingo is played, presented by Rosemary Mancuso and Rose Cerrie. Winners of this month’s 50/50 were Robin Carr, Julie Porternash and Lucy Saeli. We honored veterans and thanked them for their service. They included Kathy Hobbs, John Wiedenhoffer, and Carol Portman.
