Outage impacts city school Friday

A partial power outage impacted the Dunkirk City School District on Friday.

In a note posted on Facebook, the district said it was implementing the emergency go-home procedure at the secondary school on Friday afternoon. Students who were transported by bus were provided transportation at the usual dismissal time.

King luncheon slated for Jan. 15

The Northern Chautauqua County Juneteenth Celebration Committee is planning the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon to be at the Clarion Hotel, 30 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk on Monday, Jan. 15, at 11:45 a.m. The theme for the luncheon is “The Time Is Always Right To Do What Is Right.”

The committee will also be presenting the Janice D. Slaton, Esq. scholarships. In addition to the scholarship presentation, the Committee is continuing with the “See Me” Literacy Drive that began in 2021 due to COVID-19. Attendees should feel free to bring a book to the luncheon or donate funds to purchase new books or games. The “See Me” Literacy Drive provides books and games that reflect the community in which the reader resides.

The luncheon this year will be dedicated to organizations and individuals who continue to honor Dr. King’s memory by serving others in their everyday lives.

The Juneteenth Celebration in the city of Dunkirk will be celebrating its 28th anniversary on June 15 and 16.

Gowanda virtual town hall meeting Wednesday

Gowanda Central School District residents are invited to participate in a “Town Hall”-style meeting with Superintendent Dr. Robert B. Anderson on Wednesday via Facebook Live.

This inclusive, virtual communication opportunity is designed to help the district connect with the community. Participants will get an update on topics such as goals, strategic planning, equity, student achievement and more. The meeting will end with a question-and-answer session.

Those unable to participate in real time are encouraged to submit questions or topics for discussion in advance via email to district clerk Kathy Ferneza at msferneza@gcslearn.org or at 716-532-3325, ext. 6300, by noon Jan. 10.

Sinclairville library sets January schedule

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Sinclairville Free Library invites residents to visit the library on Thursday for a family game night featuring the Oregon Trail card game from 5 to 7 p.m. This game is for ages 12 and up, and a variety of other board and card games will also be available. The Oregon Trail “Choose Your Own Trail” book series will be available for check out, as well as supplies for a papercraft to create a small covered wagon. The library’s online book club will meet on Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss “Mr. Murder” by Dean Koontz. Please contact the library for the link to participate in the discussion on Zoom. Hanover property taxes mailed

HANOVER – Property taxes for the town of Hanover were mailed Friday, town clerk Elizabeth VanCheri states. Taxes can be paid at Town Hall, located at 68 Hanover St., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except legal holidays.

Payments can be made penalty free until Feb. 6. Payments made Feb. 7 to 29 will incur 1% penalty. A 2% fee will be added to payments made from March 1 to April 1..

Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card. Credit card payments will incur an additional 3% fee. On April 2, all unpaid taxes will be returned to the county.
