Coffee Club meets Friday

The Roblin Steel Coffee Club will meet at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Demetris in Dunkirk.

Area teams battle in High School Bowl

Warren Area High School defeated Fredonia Central School 60-52 in a recent Media One High School Bowl match at SUNY Jamestown Community College. In another match, Chautauqua Lake Central School topped Kane Area High School 73-23.

Ben Feit of Fredonia, Ben Scott of Warren, and Lydia Kushmaul and Lincoln Smith of Chautauqua Lake earned Player of the Match honors. Fredonia (1-1) team members were Feit, Rebecca Lash, Ray Dai, Abby Lauer, Joella Bauza, and Lacy Drennen.Kushmaul, Smith, Dayne Jantzi, and Nathan Henry competed for Chautauqua Lake (2-0).

High School Bowl, in its 62nd year, is produced by Media One Group in cooperation with JCC.

High School Bowl airs at 11 a.m. Saturdays on WJTN (1240 AM and 101.3 FM) and at 7 a.m. Sundays on SE-93 (93.3 FM).

Book signing set for Saturday

A book signing will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Next Chapter Bookstore, 12 Park Place, Fredonia. Travis Carlson will be signing his comic style adventure book: “Mafia: Buffalo-vs.-The Multiverse.” Books will be on sale for $45 each.

Fire Commissioners set annual meeting

PORTLAND — The annual reorganizational meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Portland Fire District will be on Monday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Portland Fire Station, 6481 W. Main St. The regular meeting of the board will immediately follow this meeting. As always these meetings are open to the public.

Relief group helps families for holidays

WESTFIELD — The Union Relief Association of Westfield is offering a thank you to all the members of the community who supported the annual Christmas Project and Charity Ball.

Thanks to community generosity, the Association was able to provide food, household items, winter boots, coats, clothing and gifts to 48 families, including more than 100 children in need. “We were also able to provide 65 care packages filled with food and household items to local senior citizens,” the group said.

“On Dec. 2, we held our 100th Annual Charity Ball. It was our most attended and successful ball yet! Attendees enjoyed live music and dancing alongside friends and fellow community members, all while supporting a very worthy cause.

“Thank you to everyone who attended the Charity Ball, donated to the Christmas Project or volunteered your time! We appreciate that you continue to support our organization and help us to give back to those in need within our community. We couldn’t do it without you!”
