Blood drive planned for today

Wheelock Primary School has teamed up with the Community Blood Bank to hold a life-saving blood drive.

The drive will be today from 1 to 4 p.m. in the gym. The drive is open to the public and the school is encouraging the public to stop in and donate.

Area hospital usage is up and there’s a critical need for O-, O+ and A+ donors. To schedule an appointment call 814-456-4206. No appointment necessary.

GHS bringing ‘Cinderella’ to the stage this weekend

GOWANDA — Gowanda High School’s Thespian Society is rehearsing for an upcoming production of “Cinderella,” the classic musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Cast and crew have been rehearsing for weeks to present this classic fairy tale turned family friendly musical to the community on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. with a special free preview for area senior citizens scheduled Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the auditorium at GHS on Prospect Street.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for Seniors or students. Visit https://www.showtix4u.com/events/gowandacinderella to buy presale tickets. Presale tickets will be available for pickup at the will call table in the lobby on the nights of the show. Online ticket sales will stop a few hours before the show. Tickets are also available for purchase in person at the door.

Congregation to mark Imbolc

An Imbolc Gathering will be at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua, located at 222 Temple St. in Fredonia on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Imbolc, St. Brigid’s Day, Candlemas, and Groundhog Day all occur around Feb. 2, which is the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. Imbolc is the first major Sabat of the Celtic calendar and marks the New Year on their cyclical calendar. It is a festival of the anticipation of spring and new possibilities.

To celebrate this Wiccan holiday, UUCNC’s Green Sanctuary team will host an intergenerational celebration at the meeting house on Friday. Festivities will start with an intergenerational craft activity and churning of butter, followed by a vegetarian meal. At 7, there will be a circle candlelight service. Please bring a favorite candle.

All ages are invited to attend this free event. RSVP by calling and leaving a message on the church’s voice mail at 716-679-7944. If you would like childcare for your little one(s), please leave the number of children attending and their ages and the message will be relayed to our childcare coordinator.
