Sons of Legion meet in Brocton

BROCTON — The Sons of the Legion, squad 434 Brocton, will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday. The meeting is at the Brocton Legion starting at 7 p.m. Plans for the upcoming corn hole tournament and the Legion solar eclipse weekend will be discussed. All members are encouraged to attend.

Sheridan VFW Auxiliary meets Monday

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan VFW 6390 Auxiliary will hold its regular monthly meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. The meeting place is the VFW Post at 2556 Route 20. In order to conduct business,the auxiliary needs all members who are able to attend to achieve a quorum. A recent lottery ticket tree raffle was a successful fundraiser enabling the auxiliary to make a donation to the Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight. Future fund-raising will be discussed, along with committee reports and the upcoming election of officers next month. Club planning indoor yard sale

GOWANDA — On Saturday, the Slovenian Club of Gowanda will hold an Indoor Yard Sale with Basket Raffle from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Club located at 36 Palmer St. A great variety will include refreshments and lunch. Proceeds will benefit the Club’s community service projects.

Dyngus Day dinner set in Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK — Mark your calendar as a day to enjoy an authentic Polish Meal in Silver Creek. Hometown Barbie’s pierogis, Polish sausage, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, salad and desserts will be featured during the Dyngus Day event April 1. The Town of Hanover Democratic Club is hosting the event at the Firemen’s Club on the Lake, 23 Jackson St. Silver Creek. A cash bar is available, festivities will start at 5 p.m.Tickets are $15. Food pantry open March 16

On Saturday, March 16, The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia in ZIP code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.

Candidates sought for Brocton races

The Brocton-Portland Democratic Committee will be taking applications for anyone interested in running in the Nov. 5 general election. The positions open are two village of Brocton trustee postions and Brocton mayor, all four-year terms. The committee also is looking for new members. Sons of Revolution meets Saturday

STOCKTON — The Chautauqua Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Stockton Hotel. Brent Downing from the New York State S.A.R. will be there to answer questions and give direction to the members. Attendees will order lunch from the menu. Any person interested in the War for Independence is welcome to attend. Spouses are also welcome. Flight scholarships offered for spring The Aero Club of Buffalo will offer two $3,000 scholarships for spring. They are the The Fran Bainbridge Flight Training Scholarship, which is $3,000 to a flight student pursuing a private pilot or higher certificate (must have soloed) and the Jim and Bob Lally Aeronautical Engineering Scholarship. It is $3,000 to be used toward a degree program in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering (junior or senior college student) or other training considered.
