Lakefront Boulevard in city reopens

Just in time for a return to wintry weather, Dunkirk’s Lakefront Boulevard is reopen for the spring.

The road along Lake Erie, a popular place for a scenic drive, fully reopened late last week, according to Dunkirk Department of Public Works head Randy Woodbury.

He said it reopened a bit earlier than normal for two reasons: The warm, ice-free winter, and because the Dunkirk Police Department requested it.

With freezing temperatures and stormy weather ahead this week, people who want their first Lakefront Boulevard cruise of the season probably ought to be careful. When spray from lake waves freezes on the road, it usually makes for treacherous driving conditions.
