Blood drive set May 3 in South Dayton

SOUTH DAYTON — The community is invited to a Blood Drive on Friday, May 3, 2024, in the old gym at Pine Valley Junior and Senior High School, 7827 Route 83, between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. This event is in collaboration with Community Blood Bank.

Please email vmaltbie@pval.org to sign up for a time or just come on the day of the blood drive. Donors should fill out this online screening form on May 3: https://fourhearts.org/donor-quickpass/

Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds, have no tattoo or piercings in the past three months, be in general good health, and eat before donating. Photo identification required.

Sinclairville plans chicken barbecue

SINCLAIRVILLE — On April 28, the Sinclairville Volunteer Fire Co. will be hosting their second chicken barbecue. The time is noon at the Fire Hall, 30 Main St. Plenty of parking available. Full dinner is $15, consisting of half chicken, scalloped potatoes, roll, pickles, applesauce and cookie. Coffee and soda available with the meal. Chicken halves alone are available for $8 each. Come and enjoy your Sunday dinner with us.

Legion hosting band Saturday

The American Legion, Post 59, will be hosting The Mickenbackers Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia. The band consists of Mickey Mamp on guitar/vocals, Rob Nichols bass/vocals, Craig Johnson percussion and Bill Piper on harmonica. All members and guests are welcome.

Auxiliary notes upcoming events

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its regular monthly meeting April 9 with 13 members and one guest attending.

Squadron 1280 member Diman Smith spoke to the Unit about the annual “Boots on the Ground” walk-a-thon that is all set to be on Saturday, April 27 at the Cassadaga Legion & Cemetery, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a Department of state Auxiliary & Sons of the Legion function, and all proceeds will be split to go to benefit veterans and more. Anyone interested in walking or donating to this cause can call the Legion at (716) 595-3145 for information or show up at the walk-a-Thon.

With our last transmittal, Unit 1280’s membership is at 99½% paid for the year. Send your $30 to Unit 1280/228 Maple Ave/Cassadaga 14718 or stop by the Post and pay. Ricky Haase reported on the “Grass Roots group” through the American Legion that advocates for veteran issues that come before congress.

All citizens can go into that website and vote for Veteran issues that interest them. Poppy chairperson Lauren Sharp getting ready for our upcoming “Poppy Days” from May 23 to 27. Donation cans are being distributed throughout the local communities. Unit 1280 member Debra Meder spoke to our Unit about the Valley Community Choir singing at the Cassadaga Memorial Day service at the cemetery, to honor the fallen military men and women. The annual Rummage Sale to be held in the back hall Saturday May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
