Volunteers sought for Gorge cleanup

During the summer of 2023, the Morgan Duke Conservation Society, a nonprofit 501(C)3 organization, entered into a Volunteer Stewardship Agreement with DEC Region 9 to assist in cleaning up litter and trash from the Day Use Area and Camping Area at Chautauqua Gorge State Forest on Hannum Road in Mayville. These specific areas are popular during the summer and holidays.

The Morgan Duke Conservation Society is welcoming community members, residents, and students to join in their efforts. Volunteers will be supplied with necessary items such as orange bags, pickers, safety vests, and gloves. To make the volunteering experience enjoyable, volunteers will receive data collection sheets to log the type of garbage collected and report any trail conditions. For students seeking volunteer service hours, becoming a volunteer with the Morgan Duke Conservation Society is an option. They can log their hours on the volunteer portal provided by the organization.

For additional information about Morgan Duke Conservation Society, please visit our website at www.morganduke.ngo or reach out to James Sullivan at Jsullivan@morgandukecs.ngo. You can also explore volunteering opportunities on our website at https://bttr.im/gthgf. Our organization is based in Hudson Valley in Orange County, New York, and has established Volunteer Stewardship Agreements with DEC Regions 3, 4, 5, and 9 to enable individuals to volunteer and assist in the protection of these popular summer destinations.

The theme for April is Interdependence. On Sunday, members Diane Clark and Jessamine Daly-Griffen will lead us thru a service called “The Good of Grief”

In the soul’s longing for perfection, grief and sadness cannot be circumvented. Recognizing grief can bring a person a deep understanding of self and the universe at large. This service will offer a window into the beautiful things that a new understanding of grief can bring us.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua strives to be a vibrant, welcoming, multigenerational, diverse community enlivened by the power of radical love.
