Lake paddle planned for weekend

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Lakes Association and Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will hold its annual “Paddles Across Cassadaga Lakes” on Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m. The paddle will start and end at Cassadaga Beach on Park Avenue in Cassadaga, and refreshments will be served post-paddle.

Kayaks, canoes, and other non-motorized watercraft are welcome. The paddle is free and open to the public (no reservations required), but donations are gladly accepted.

Kayak rentals can be made through Evergreen Outfitters, with reservations for the rentals required in advance by calling 716-763-2266. All paddlers must wear life jackets and have lights on their watercraft.

Village planning

The village of Fredonia will be conducting lead and copper water service inspections to some residents throughout the village in the next few weeks. An employee will only need access to your water meter to do a visual inspection of your water line. If you know the material of your service you may report that yourself by calling the village of Fredonia DPW at 716-679-2304. To identify the type of material you have in your home you may visit https://bit.ly/checkpipes.

City church resuming monthly dinners

St. John’s United Church of Christ will resume their monthly dinners this month. On Saturday, Sept. 21, a delicious chicken and biscuit dinner will be available for eat in or take out. The price remains the same, $13, and it includes dessert. Dinner is served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Reservations are suggested at 716-366-0710.

St. John’s is located at 733 Central Ave.; entrance to the Parking Lot is from Eagle Street.

The City of Dunkirk Fire Department and Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Local 616 will be hosting its annual Sept. 11 ceremony on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Fire Headquarters. The public is invited to attend.

Sons of Legion

BROCTON — The Sons of the Legion, Squad 434 Brocton, will resume its monthly meeting today. Meetings are held at the Brocton Legion starting at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.

Club to gather

Roblin Steel Coffee Club will be gathering at Demetri’s Restaurant, Dunkirk at 9 a.m. Friday. All former employees, family, friends are always invited to attend.

Vegetarian/Vegan Society meets Sunday

JAMESTOWN — The Chautauqua Vegetarian/Vegan Society’s series of fall meetings resumes Sunday in Jamestown. The guest speaker will be Kara Bemis, who is the founder and administrator of the Sustainable Jamestown group on Facebook.

She is passionate about being mindful of waste and choosing sustainable options. She will be speaking about easy ways we can make our lives more sustainable.

The meeting will take place on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 130 McDaniel Ave. It will be a Vegan potluck.

Bring a vegan dish to share. The cost is $2 if you bring a dish or $6 without bringing a dish to share.
