Entries sought for
chili cook-off
FORESTVILLE — A chili cook-off contest will be held on Saturday, Oct.5 at the Forestville Fall Festival. This has become a popular event with the public tasting and participating in judging.
Entries must be received by noon on the day of the contest. “Name Your Chili” and bring in at least a 5-quart crock pot.

United Senior
Citizens meet Oct. 14
United Senior Citizens met Monday, Sept. 9 at the Falcon Club in Dunkirk to enjoy a pleasantly prepared meal by Allison Kozlowski. Cupcakes were provided by member Marcia Zmuda.
A prayer of Thanksgiving was offered by member Judy Presutti, and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of God Bless America led by President Evonne Hennebery. A moment of Silence was given to acknowledge the passing of member Tina Richthammer.
Announcements were given and Happy Birthday was sung to members Hennebery, Laurie Pitts, Mary Edwards, and Kathy Kamery. After lunch Bingo was held and called by members Rosemary Mancuso and Rose Cerrie. New members Sarah Gorczynski, Carol Genovese and Laurie Pitts and guest Christina Galardo were welcomed.
The Oct. 14 meeting will feature herbed pork tenderloin, baked chicken, stuffing, scalloped potatoes, asparagus and tossed salad. Send a $15 check for each lunch made out to United Senior Citizens and sent to Evonne Hennebery, PO Box 706, Dunkirk, NY 14048 by the Oct. 5 deadline. The group will welcome guest speaker John D’Agostino, editor of The Post-Journal and OBSERVER. Afterward, there will be Bingo.
Members are encouraged to bring a friend to enjoy a catered lunch and meet new friends. This great senior group comes together the second Monday of the month, excluding January and February at the Falcon Club, 341 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk. Legion Auxiliary gives updates, events
CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 met recently and held its first meeting of the year, with 12 members attending. It was reported that the Cruise Night bake sales went very well over the summer, as well as the Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons Chicken BBQ; it sold out in 45 minutes!
The chaplain reported that she has sent get well and sympathy cards to members; and recently the Unit held a funeral luncheon for the family of a Post 1280 Legionnaire.
Unit 1280’s membership dues for 2025 are now being accepted; the $30 can be mailed to Attn: Sally Lawson, Post 1280, 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga, or you can stop by the Post to pay. On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Legion, Auxiliary and Sons are sponsoring an Oktoberfest/Tailgate party that is open to the public. It will be at the post from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be Oktoberfest food favorites and drinks available for purchase during the Bills-Houston Texans game.The unit also includes a non-perishable food drive to benefit the Cassadaga Food Pantry. The annual Vendor Showcase Saturday will be Oct. 26, and a Veterans Day program for November is in the works.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Legion Post. Members are encouraged to attend, to help with the mission to help our veterans and community.
Planning Board meets Oct. 1
JAMESTOWN — The Chautauqua County Planning Board’s monthly meeting will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The meeting will be at the Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport in the Terminal Building at 3163 Airport Drive.
