Apple Butter Festival Oct. 12
WESTFIELD — The West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 E. Route 20, will be hosting its 10th annual Apple Butter Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will have old-fashioned kettle cooked apple butter available for a donation.
There will be more than 40 vendors offering various sale items including food vendors. In celebration of 2024 being the 10th Apple Butter Festival, there will be special free gifts, free drawings, and more.
The festival will take place rain or shine. All profits generated from the festival will be donated to the Brocton/ Portland Food Pantry which is operated on the church grounds. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
VFW Auxiliary holds meeting
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan VFW Auxiliary met at the Sheridan VFW Post 6390 on Monday, Sept. 16. Members approved several donations and discussed upcoming events. The auxiliary will be helping the Silver Creek VFW Auxiliary with their Stop 22 Walk on Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. There was an appreciation dinner at the Post on Saturday. Members were asked to attend if they are able.
Members were reminded to pay dues as soon as they can and to submit their program reports. Members will be distributing poppies at one or two stores during Veterans’ weekend in November. Some items for discussion were tabled until the next meeting, which is at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the meeting room of the post.
150th Assembly
debate set for Oct. 10
JAMESTOWN — WRFA, in partnership with the Jamestown Post-Journal and Media One Group, will be hosting the 150th State Assembly Candidate Debate.
The debate will feature Republican candidate Andrew Molitor and Democratic Candidate Michael Bobseine.
The debate panel will be moderated by WRFA’s Julia Ciesla-Hanley and will involve questions from participating media members John D’Agostino of the OBSERVER and The Post-Journal, and Terry Frank of Media One Group and WJTN.
There will also be an opportunity for each candidate to ask one question to each of their two respective opponents. Audience questions will only be taken if time allows.
It will be at 6 p.m, Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Third Floor Media Arts Room of the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts. The debate will be broadcast live on 107.9 FM and livestreamed on WRFA’s YouTube page. The program will also be rebroadcast in the future by WRFA and WJTN radio.
The debate is intended to help inform voters of the 150th State Assembly District about each of the two candidates prior to Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Limited seating for audience members will be available. Reservations for seats can be made starting at 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 26 by emailing julia@reglenna.com.
Trinity United Church of Christ free community meal
GOWANDA — The Trinity United Church, at Erie Avenue and Park Street, will host a take-out only free community meal at the Park Street entrance on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. or gone. The menu is pork medallions, au gratin potatoes, vegetable, bread and cookies. Free will donations are appreciated but not necessary. Drive East Main to Railroad Avenue and then down Park Street, following the signs, or walk up. Everyone is welcome. The next meal is Nov. 9.
