Free church dinner Saturday

GOWANDA – Trinity United Church of Christ, located at 30 Erie Avenue, Gowanda, is holding a free church dinner on Saturday from 4-6 p.m. or until the food is gone. This is take out only. The meal will consist of chicken fajitas, yellow rice, corn salad, fruit and a cookie. Next meal is June 14. Free will donations are appreciated but not necessary. All donations are used to help other organizations in the community.

Unitarian Universalist announces Sunday schedule

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua, located at 222 Temple Street in Fredonia, holds a Sunday Worship Service at 11 a.m., both at their physical location and on Zoom. For those wishing to join virtually, visit https://tinyurl.com/caluucnc. Click on “Worship Service” on the date you are attending and scroll down for the Zoom link. For those attending the in-person service, please follow the driveway and park in the lower lot behind the building. Handicapped parking is located between the two buildings and directly behind the second building.

The theme for May is Imagination. On Sunday join us for Bring a Friend Sunday and The Case for “No Gods Allowed” with Rev. Ron Skowronski.

What or Who is God? Humanity has been wrestling and continues to wrestle with this existential question. In this sermon, our minister will reflect on the evolution of Humanism and why it continues to have a powerful influence on Unitarian Universalism. Come as you doubt. Come as you believe.

Immediately following the service there will be a potluck lunch. Bring a dish to share if you are able.

Gowanda to hold Meet the Candidates Night

GOWANDA – Gowanda Central School District is partnering with the Kiwanis Club of Gowanda to present Meet the Board of Education Candidates Night on Wednesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. in the high school library and remotely via Facebook Live. Find out where the Board of Education candidates stand on issues that concern the school district.

The following candidates are vying for two at-large seats: John Y. Waterman Jr., Brandon Newell and Brittney Olszewski.

Blood drive set May 15 at Pine Valley CSD

SOUTH DAYTON – Pine Valley Jr./Sr. High School, in collaboration with Community Blood Bank, is hosting a blood drive Thursday, May 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the gym and walk-ins are welcome.

Donors should visit the district website www.pval.org to complete a digital QuickPass on the day of donation.

To donate, you must be at least 17 years old or 16 with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds, and have received no tattoos or piercings in the past three months. Donors should be in general good health, eat before donating, and bring photo identification.

Roblin Steel coffee club gathering

The Roblin Steel coffee club will gather at Demetri’s Restaurant, 6 Lake Shore Drive W., Dunkirk on Friday at 9 a.m. All former employees/families/friends are always invited to attend.

Chautauqua County Board of Health to meet

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Board of Health will hold their quarterly meeting on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the HRC Building, Fourth Floor Conference Room, 7 N. Erie St. in Mayville.

Comments received from the public will be accepted as communications, and not read during privilege of the floor. Public comments at the meetings during the privilege of the floor must be made in person.

Free rabies vaccination clinic set for May 17

WESTFIELD – The Chautauqua County Health Department is announcing a free rabies vaccination clinic sponsored by the Town of Westfield and the county Health Department. Animals must be pre-registered to receive vaccinations. Vaccinations will be provided free of charge to all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets three months of age and older.

This will take place on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Westfield Highway Department, 118 Chestnut St., Westfield.

Pre-registration is required and should be submitted online by visiting HealthyCHQ.com/Rabies.

There are a limited number of spots available, so pet owners should pre-register online as soon as possible. If you register but decide not to attend the event, please cancel your appointment so the spot is available for another pet. You can cancel appointments via the confirmation email you receive when you register.

Pet owners must bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot to ensure proper and effective vaccination; clinic staff will confirm previous rabies vaccination records. All dogs must be on a leash. All cats and ferrets must be in individual carriers. Animal handlers will transport animals to the veterinarian for vaccination.

St. John’s dinner set for May 17

St. John’s UCC will be having a Polish Sausage dinner on Saturday, May 17. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. eat in or take out. Cost is $13 and includes dessert. Reservations are strongly suggested. Call the church office at 716-366-0710. Enter the parking lot from Eagle Street. This is the last dinner of the season.

Gowanda Ambulance Benefit/Dance May 17

A Gowanda Ambulance Benefit/Dance will take place on May 17 from 7-10 p.m. at the Gowanda Moose. The band Rockabilly Steve will be performing. Cost is $10 per person.
