Legion hosts meat raffle May 31

BROCTON — The John W. Dill Post 434 American Legion in Brocton is hosting a meat raffle on Saturday, May 31 beginning at 6 p.m. to benefit the Brocton-Portland Little League. Refreshments are available. A number of cash drawings will be held.

Chicken barbecue set for Monday

The American Legion Post 62 at 211 Central Ave. will have a Weidner’s chicken barbecue from noon until sold out on Memorial Day. The cost is $15 presale at the Legion or $16 at the door that day. Live music and a chance auction will also be available.

Rotary honors area students

WESTFIELD — The Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club recently honored Scholars of the Month at a reception at the Lakeshore Assembly of God Church in Westfield from Westfield Academy and Central School, Brocton Central, Chautauqua Lake Central School, including Ripley, and Sherman Central School. The high school students were joined by parents, school staff and Rotarians.

— Brocton Central School: Anthony Cruz, Michael Garcia, Jolena Doner ,Keyonna Kent and Kaylee-Sue Deming.

— Sherman Central School: Andrew Perry, Olivia Lindsey, Brady Phelps, Max Guzman and Kelsey Wagner.

Auxiliary approves slate of officers

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held their monthly meeting at the Legion Post, May 13 with 10 senior members attending and five officers present.

Membership chairperson Sally Lawson noted Unit 1280 members is at 101½% for the year. Poppy chairperson Lauren Sharp has distributed poppy cans to local businesses and passed around a sign-up sheet for “Poppy Days” distribution this weekend.

Discussion was held on the upcoming Sons of the Legion’s summertime Cruise Nights that will be held the last Tuesday of the summer months: May 27, June 24, July 29, and Aug. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Unit 1280 will be holding their famous Pie & Baked Goods Sales during these Cruise Nights. The “Boots on the Ground” walk-a-thon went well, with all proceeds going to help Veterans and their programs. Officers elected included: President, Ranee Kaus; first Vice President Charyle Tyler; Secretary, Carol Baker, Treasurer, Sue DeGolier; Chaplain Paula Pattison; Sgt-at-Arms, Lynn Moeller.

The next Unit meeting will be Tuesday, June 10. A “Pot-Luck” dinner at 6 p.m. and our meeting with installation of the 2025-26 officers will follow.
