Science ambassador to speak Monday

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua presents a talk by Science Ambassador JD Stillwater, along with a sandwich and salad dinner at 5 p.m. Monday. It takes place at 222 Temple St.

Stillwater moves and inspires thousands of people all over North America and the globe with science-centered messages of awe and deep kinship. He will be speaking at Chautauqua Institution next week, and the congregation is fortunate he agreed to speak in Fredonia while he’s in the area! https://www.jdstillwater.earth/

Stillwater notes that human are having major impacts on the planet and some of those impacts may be evident millions of years from now. “Are we a cancer on the biosphere, a plague? Would it be better if we had remained blissfully in the stone age? Our angst about such matters may be no more helpful to building sustainable systems than is white guilt in forging racial justice,” he notes

There is no charge for this event, but donations are accepted.

The United Senior Citizens met Monday, June 9 at the Falcon Club, 341 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk, where a delicious lunch was prepared consisting of roast turkey, Polish sausage, asparagus, green beans, tossed salad and potatoes.

President Evonne Hennebery brought the meeting to order after lunch offering a moment of silence for dear and passing members: Marcia Zmuda and Patricia Ardillo. The group recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang “God Bless America.” June birthdays were announced and the Happy Birthday song was sung to: Robin Carr, Linda Riley and Jill Szynski-Serino. Bingo followed the meeting, called by Rosemary Mancuso and Lucy Saeli and many members stayed and enjoyed the games.

Mark your calendar for the next meeting: July 14 when the United Senior Citizens will host Carey Skelton explaining and distributing Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon booklets. In addition, Mike Lee will present “Name that Scam Game.”Every time we turn around we hear another Senior getting “scammed”. Hopefully, with Lee’s foreknowledge, we will be forearmed! Bingo will follow.
