VFW Auxiliary discusses programs
SHERIDAN — The VFW Auxiliary Post 6390 met Monday at a member’s home for a meeting and then shared a potluck dinner. The members received their new program chairperson’s name and contact information. The program committees include Americanism, Community Outreach, Media and Historian, Veterans and Family Services, Hospital, Youth and Legislative.
The group discussed sending our monthly reports in for those programs, our monthly donations to charitable organizations, and the ideas for planning a bingo again in the Fall. The auxiliary also was thrilled to welcome a new member. The next meeting will be Monday, Aug. 11 at another member’s home. In September we will resume having our meetings at the Post.
CVCS plans special meeting
A special meeting of the Board of Education of the Cassadaga Valley Central School District will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Middle/High School Multipurpose Room and via Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/95237387537.
Water committee to meet Wednesday
BROCTON — The Brocton-Portland Water Group Committee will have a special meeting Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 34 W. Main St.
Veterans 4 Christ gather in Brocton
BROCTON — This Saturday, Veterans 4 Christ (V4C) will offer a free brunch for all veterans, active-duty military and a guest at Tri-Church Parish, 41 E. Main St. The Gospel Church from Fredonia will graciously provide the brunch. V4C is honored to be one of The Gospel Church’s many missions. The featured speaker at 10 a.m. will be Barb Cessna from the Fenton History Center, 67 Washington St. in Jamestown. She will talk about the programs that the Fenton History Center offers to veterans or active-duty military.

Leon hosting town picnic next month
LEON — A town picnic that includes pickleball, cornhole, horseshoes, a huge wine and cheese basket raffle, 50-50, door prize, cards, Pennyroyal Racetrack Memories and more will be Aug. 16 at 1 p.m.
In addition, there will be a chicken barbecue, hot dogs, and pie. Participants are asked to bring a dish to pass.
A Pie baking contest with prizes also is planned. It is $25 for first place, $15 for second and $10 for third. Call Pat Bromley at 716-680-1161 or Donna Snyder at 716-296-5364 to register between Aug. 1 and 14.
This event is free for Leon residents — past and present — as well as anyone connected to Leon, the Pennyroyal Racetrack, the Fire Company, Auxiliary, Historical Society, Town of Leon, Leon businesses and establishments. Donations are welcome and proceeds go to the Leon Town Picnic Fund.
