Drumming event planned this evening

CASSADAGA — Join the Cassadaga Library Branch, 18 Maple Ave, Cassadaga for a family drumming event from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Participants will meet in the back yard and practice drumming. Drums, instruction and fun provided by Janine Chimera. A free family event. All are welcome!

Town picnic slated for Aug. 16

LEON — The Leon Town Picnic will begin at noon Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Fire Hall. It will include a pie baking contest with cash prizes. Pies must be at the fire hall by 11:30 a.m.

Bring a dish to pass, Food served around 1 p.m. Event is free to Leon residents — past and present, and anyone connected to Leon. Donations are always welcome with proceeds to Leon Picnic Fund.

Forestville Farmers’ Market changes hours

FORESTVILLE — The Forestville Farmers’ Market, Main Street, Forestville will be open on Thursdays from 1 to 5 p.m. Fruits, vegetables, locally-raised free range poultry and meats, baked goods, flowers and locally crafted Artisan creations are available for purchase. SNAP/EBT benefits are accepted.

Imagine Forestville is quite proud of the growth of the market. The market makes a difference to the farmers and to the people who want to eat good fresh local food. The local convenience store, Caves, provides space, and the Town supports the activity.

History talk on first World War II county casualty

JAMESTOWN — The Fenton History Center’s August talk on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. is about John Henry Mann from Stow who was killed at Hickam Field on Dec. 7, 1942. He was the first casualty of World War II from Chautauqua County.

Last October the center’s research team made contact with the family of one of his comrades and have been following his story. In June the Center received information that his remains were been identified and his family was making plans to bring him home. Fenton History Center Board Vice President and researcher, Janet Wahlberg, will present her findings on this topic. The event is free and open to the public.
