Grief support sessions planned

The Lord’s Vineyard Family of Catholic Parishes will begin a new series of Grief Support Group sessions on Monday, Sept. 8, at the TLV Center for Catholic Faith & Devotion (the former St. Hyacinth School, 295 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk). The group will meet for six one-hour sessions on alternate Mondays at 6:30 p.m. and will be facilitated by Dick Rodriguez.

The program offers a safe and supportive environment for those grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will be able to share experiences, learn healthy ways to cope, and find encouragement from others on a similar journey.

The group is free and open to all, regardless of faith background. A minimum of three participants is needed to begin.

For more information or to register, please contact the Central Office of The Lord’s Vineyard at 716-366-2306.

Meeting for stroke, head injuries continue at SUNY

The Henry C. Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders at SUNY Fredonia will resume offering support group meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and family members in Fall 2025.

The group will meet the first and third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. in Thompson Hall Room E148.

The first meeting of the semester is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 16. A typical group meeting will include activities to help stroke and head injury survivors use compensatory strategies to improve communication skills, provide educational information and an opportunity to socialize and share experiences. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Youngerman Center recognizes there are individuals in the community whose insurance benefit for therapy has been exhausted but their hopes for improvement have not. Please contact Julie Williams, coordinator, at (716) 673-4618 for more information about attending the group.

Additional meetings are scheduled for Oct. 7, Oct. 21, Nov. 4, Nov. 18 and Dec. 2.

Starting at $3.50/week.
