The monthly meeting of the Willowbrook Park Cemetery Board will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Mackowiak Funeral Home on Doughty Street in Dunkirk. All are welcome.

Board to meet

The Administrative Board of the North Chautauqua County Water District shall hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Dunkirk Town Hall, 4737 Willow Road, Dunkirk. The meeting is open to the public.

Poetry Reading at Sinclairville Free Library

SINCLAIRVILLE – Join John Brantingham, professor emeritus of creative writing, at the Sinclairville Free Library for a poetry reading at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11. Lynne Thompson, Poet Laureate of LA, will present her poetry via Zoom, and local poets are invited to share their work during an in-person open mic afterwards.

Lynne Thompson was the 4th Poet Laureate for the City of Los Angeles. The daughter of Caribbean immigrants, her poetry collections include Beg No Pardon (2007), winner of the Perugia Press Prize and the Great Lakes Colleges Association’s New Writers Award; Start With a Small Guitar (2013), from What Books Press; and Fretwork (2019), winner of the Marsh Hawk Press Poetry Prize. Thompson’s honors include the Tucson Festival of Books Literary Award (poetry) and the Stephen Dunn Prize for Poetry as well as fellowships from the City of Los Angeles, Vermont Studio Center, and the Summer Literary Series in Kenya.

The Story of the Stone Cutters: Headstones and Beyond

The Darwin R. Barker Museum’s collaboration with the Fredonia Opera House continues with a compelling lecture by Dr. Catherine Ullman, who will share her research into the lives and legacies of the stone cutters responsible for the headstones at Pioneer and Forest Hill cemeteries.

This free event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11, 7-8 PM at the Fredonia Opera House.
