Congregation to set plans, goals

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua, located at 222 Temple St. in Fredonia, holds a Sunday Worship Service at 11 a.m., both at their physical location and on Zoom.

For those wishing to join us virtually, please visit https://tinyurl.com/caluucnc. Click on “Worship Service” on the date you are attending and scroll down for the Zoom link. For those attending the in-person service, please follow the driveway and park in the lower lot behind the building. Handicapped parking is located between the two buildings and directly behind the second building.

The theme for September is Building Belonging. This week, join the group for “Love Will Guide Us,” with Sharon Piehler, Janey Wagner, Leanna McMahon, and Jess Lustig.

In July the Executive Board participated in a retreat to consider plans and goals for the coming church year and beyond. This is a broad framework and needs input from everyone to become a vital plan we can put into action in our congregation and in the wider community. Piehler will share the basic results of the retreat; then Wagner and McMahon, who also serve on the Right Relations team, will consider how Covenant of Right Relations can center us as we work together to plan and carry out actions that align with our UU values.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua strives to be a vibrant, welcoming, multigenerational, diverse community enlivened by the power of radical love. For more information, visit the website at www.uucnc.org or call at 716-679-7944.

Legion Auxiliary meets

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 met recently and held their first meeting of the year, with 14 members attending. In the absence of our Chaplain, we held a moment of silence for our ill members, those deceased, and Veterans. All committee chairs signed up for their respective committees for the year.

For Americanism, it was announced that out of the 250-plus flags in the Cassadaga Legion flag program, 82 flags are sponsored by Unit 1280 members. It was reported that the Cruise Night bake sales went very well over the summer, as well as the Legion, Auxiliary and Sons Chicken BBQ.

Post 1280, Auxiliary and Sons members participated in the Cassadaga Labor Day parade. The Unit recently held a funeral luncheon for a Unit 1280 member’s grandfather and veteran. Unit 1280 membership dues for 2026 are now being accepted; $30 can be mailed to Attn: Sally Lawson, Post 1280. 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga, or you can stop by the post to pay.

Members present voted to donate money to the local food pantries. The meeting was closed with a prayer. The next meeting will be Tuesday Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Legion Post. All members are encouraged to attend to help our mission to help the veterans and community.
