Wdowiasz proclaims disability employment awareness month
Dunkirk Mayor Kate Wdowiasz has proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the city.
The month “celebrates the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities and raises awareness about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents,” according to Wdowiasz’s proclamation.
She wrote that the theme for this year’s month is “Celebrating Value and Talent” of U.S. workers with disabilities. Wdowiasz added, “The city of Dunkirk is committed to advancing policies and practices that promote accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity in employment for individuals with disabilities, including through partnerships with local organizations, employers, and schools that help open doors to meaningful careers.”
Wdowiasz concluded, “I encourage all residents, businesses and community organizations to join in Celebrating Value and Talent — to recognize the contributions of people with disabilities, promote inclusive hiring and workplace practices, and ensure all our citizens have the opportunity to contribute their strengths to our community.”
