Auxiliary chooses Girl State

candidates

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held an informal meeting last month with nine members attending. Paula Pattison reported that we held one funeral luncheon for the family of Squadron 1280 member Kurt Scott. She continues to send get well and sympathy cards as needed. Unit 1280 is still taking 2026 dues. Members can send $30 to Unit 1280/228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga, NY 14718 or stop by the post and pay.

Under the direction of committee chair Brandi Meacham, the Empire Girl State interviews for applicants were held. Gabriele Cunningham was chosen as candidate with Anna Burlingame as our alternate. ‘

Unit members made 86 sucker Valentines. They were distributed at the VA.

Plans are in the works for the annual Rummage Sale on May 16.

Unit 1280’s next meeting will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Legion Post. All members are encouraged to attend, to help with the mission to help our veterans and community.

Historical Society sets monthly

The Dunkirk Historical Society will hold its next monthly meeting at the Dunkirk Historical Museum, 513 Washington St., Dunkirk, on Tuesday at 6 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.

Fred Basket lists hours for month

On Saturday, March 21, Fred Basket previously known as The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. and additionally, on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Guests may only receive one helping a month. These new hours hope to serve those who cannot attend on Saturdays the food pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, ZIP code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.
