Pump prices
continue to climb
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.99, up 5 cents from last Monday, according to AAA. One year ago, the price was $3.16. The state average is $3.93, up 7 cents from last Monday. A year ago, the state average was $3.12.
Prices in Chautauqua County remain around $3.96 to $4 per gallon.
As March winds down, drivers are feeling renewed pressure at the pump as the national average for regular gasoline continues its sharp climb, fueled by rising seasonal demand and the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Over the past several weeks, prices have surged on the back of elevated crude oil costs, increased road travel, and broader geopolitical uncertainty. Crude prices remain stubbornly high as the conflict approaches its fourth week, pushing the national average toward the $4-per-gallon mark for the first time since August 2022. Spring break travel is also ramping up, adding another layer of upward pressure on pump prices.
