Nominations for JCC nurse award sought

SUNY Jamestown Community College is accepting nominations for the 2026 Alumni Nurse of Distinction Award, which will be presented at the JCC Foundation Awards Gala in November.

For more than 60 years, JCC’s Nursing program has prepared highly skilled and compassionate professionals who serve communities across western New York. The Alumni Nurse of Distinction Award recognizes graduates who reflect that legacy through excellence in patient care and dedication to the nursing profession.

Established in 2002, the award has been presented to more than 120 outstanding nursing alumni.

Nominees can be graduates of the program from either the Jamestown or Cattaraugus County campuses.

Quilt Guild announces guest speaker

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Quilt Guild Program is pleased to announce the upcoming program on Saturday, April 11 featuring guest speaker Jack Edson.

Edson is a renowned quilter from Hamburg, who has been honing his craft for over four decades. After a 46-year career as a librarian, including serving as the director of the Hamburg Public Library, he now focuses on creating intricate quilts inspired by art history. His unique process involves creating evolving patterns that pay homage to influential artists through thousands of pieces of fabric.

Edson’s work has been exhibited nationally, including at the Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum and the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. Notably, his self-portrait quilt earned the Margaret E. Mead Memorial award at the Burchfield Penney Art Center.

The event will be at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 49 S. Portage St. There will be a $5 charge for non-members.
