Can drive set for Saturday in city

The Blessed Mary Angela Holy Name Society will hold a can and bottle drive on Saturday at the Lord’s Vineyard Center, the former St. Hyacinth School, 296 Lake Shore Drive East in Dunkirk from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds from the drive will be used to purchase a new freezer for the society.

Library plans Family Night

SINCLAIRVILLE — Sinclairville Free Library will host another Family Night on Monday starting at 6 p.m. Paint and plant succulent pot for Mother’s Day. Plus, a handprint keepsake. All materials provided for ages 3 and up. Parent/Caregiver must stay with the child. This is a drop-in event. Each craft/activity should take around 15 minutes. Registration required.

The library is also taking registrations for our weekly Story Hour held on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Come and spend some time with Miss Jessica and all her little library friends. Children will gain the building blocks to early literacy through talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. For ages 2 years old (toddler) to preschool. Participate in stories, songs & learning. Craft or activity for extended learning. Registration is required.

Join us to explore life themes together and to create a written life story for personal reflection or to share with friends and family members during our Life Story Writing on Thursday, May 7th at 6 pm.

Event is held in person and online. For ages 12 and up. Please register.

Steel retirees to gather for breakfast

The Al Tech / Dunkirk Specialty Steel Retirees will meet on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Central Station Restaurant in Dunkirk. The group meets the first Saturday of every month, and all retirees are welcome to attend.

Legion Auxiliary unit meets

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its regular monthly meeting, April 14, with 11 members and one guest attending.

Guest speaker, Diman Smith, Squadron 1280 member, spoke to the Unit about the annual “Boots on the Ground” Walk-a-Thon held last week. This was a Statewide fundraiser run jointly with the Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion.

Chaplain Paula Pattison reported that she has sent our cards as needed, and noted that the next County Auxiliary meeting, May 14, to be held at Unit 59, Fredonia, will include the annual Memorial service to honor Auxiliary members that have passed away this past year.

Unit 1280’s membership is at 102% paid for the year

The annual Rummage & Bake Sale is set to be held in the back hall Saturday May 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. While “spring cleaning” please remember the event, “one person’s trash is another’s treasure!” Items can be dropped off starting May 10. No electronics, exercise equipment, or encyclopedias will be accepted.

The next Unit meeting will be Tuesday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Legion Post, which will include elections of Unit 1280’s 2026-2027 officers. All members are encouraged to attend.

Gowanda Pine Hill Cemetery Association to meet

The annual meeting of Gowanda Pine Hill Cemetery Association will be held Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m., at the cemetery. The rain location will be the Gowanda Municipal Building, 27 East Main St. Lot owners and the general public are welcome. Please bring your own chair.
