Sons of Legion plans Tuesday event

BROCTON — The Sons of the American Legion will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday. The meetings are held at the Brocton American Legion starting at 7. Dues for the year 2026 can be paid at the Brocton Legion during business hours. All members are encouraged to attend. The May meeting will be the last monthly meeting until September.

Brocton-Portland Seniors meet

BROCTON — Brocton-Portland Seniors met April 28 at Brocton American Legion to celebrate a 51-year anniversary.

President Anita Calcaterra opened the meeting for 66 members giving a Prayer of Thanks and Tom DeJoe leading the Pledge Of Allegiance. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gestwicki were welcomed. The committee of the day who set up tables with gorgeous arrangements by Linda Riley, were Rose Miller, Margaret Jagoda, Brian Stanton and Rita Bennett.

Secretary Ruth Neal read the March 31 minutes approved by Sharon Plucinski and Tom DeJoe. Treasurer Judy Moffett gave her report approved by Linda Janes and Chuck Cichon.

Ahira Hall Library is holding a driver’s AARP course in May and to call the library. A Table was set up for the raffle committee of Rose Brumagin, Linda Burton and Doug Chatley. The jar will be at all meetings for suggestions and ideas.

The birthday song was sung to Olive Becker, Jean Jaquith, Ed McClenathan and Rose Miller. Discussion was held regarding catered meals. Door prizes went to Lynn DiPalma and Barbara Crandall followed by 13 happy raffle winners.

The committee for the May 26 meeting is Carol Hussey, Marie Emke, Doug Chatley, Anita Calcaterra and Denise Spiller. This May meeting is a catered meal with $10 sign up.

Menu is chicken, potatoes, gravy, salad, and dessert. Members can call Judy Moffett at 716-680-1011 for a needed reservation by May 19.

Members must bring their own personal place setting for each meeting. Meeting adjourned by Sharon Carlson and Linda Burton. Tom Gestwicki entertained the sing-a-long oldie songs of yester-year. He had his great-grandfather’s musical items and reminders of the memory tunes well known today still. Everyone Singing God Bless America completed a great time for all.
