SOAR meets Tuesday in city

SOAR Chapter 4-1 will meet Tuesday at USW Local 2693 Union Hall on Fourth Street in Dunkirk.

The meeting will convene at noon with lunch to follow. All SOAR Members and retirees are invited to attend. For further information call 716-366-1485.

Band lists summer concerts

The New Horizons Band of Western New York will perform four concerts this summer. The first concert will be on Saturday, July 4 in Barker Commons at the Farmers’ Market in Fredonia from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The second concert will be performed on Thursday, July 9 at the Brocton Public Library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 16, the band will perform in Forestville at the American Legion Post 953 located at 6 Cedar St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The final concert of the summer will be on Thursday, July 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Falconer Public Library.

The New Horizons Band founder and Music Director Dr. Katherine McKay retired on April 17 after 21 years directing the band. Joseph Newton is the new music director, and he will be conducting the New Horizons Band for the first time this summer.

Candidate forum planned for Saturday

The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua will hold a candidate forum for the 23rd district House of Representatives seat for the Democratic Party. The forum will take place Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Fredonia Grange at 58 W. Main St.

The forum will feature Kevin Stocker from Tonawanda, New York and Aaron Gies of Olean, New York. Only candidates whose names appear on the Chautauqua County Board of Elections primary ballot may participate in this event.

Class reunion set for June 13

SILVER CREEK — The Bicentennial Class of Silver Creek Central School will be holding its 50th high school reunion on Saturday, June 13 at Liberty Winery and Vineyards from 6 to 9 p.m.

If anyone has not received their invitation yet and would like to attend, please contact Karen Richardson at 484-547-3105 asap before the May 25 deadline. Dress will be casual.

A school tour will take place on June 13 at 3 p.m. Show up at the high school lobby. The group tried its hardest to find everyone, but know that some have slipped through the cracks. Let Richardson know if you are interested in attending.

Healing Mass planned for May 27

A Healing Mass will take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 1030 Central Ave., Dunkirk. The Rev. Richard DiGiulio will serve as main celebrant, with Rev. Robert J. Owczarczak serving as concelebrant.

This unique Mass focuses on God’s healing presence in our lives — physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

Following the Mass, trained prayer teams will be available to pray individually with those seeking healing, comfort, strength, forgiveness, or peace in their lives and relationships.

The evening will feature prayerful music, worship, and a welcoming atmosphere centered on God’s love and mercy. Organizers emphasize that God is the source of all healing, working through prayer and faith within the community gathered together.

All are welcome to attend.

Class of 1956 makes August plans

The Fredonia High School class of 1956 is planning its final reunion on Aug. 7, 8 and 9. Meticulous care has been taken over the decades to ensure the accuracy of classmate status. The class of 81 members, of which 43 survive, has held a reunion every five years since 1961. Seventeen classmates along with 11 spouses and companions are scheduled to attend.
