Yoga class being planned
CASSADAGA — Join teacher Rachel Krupa for a Beginner’s Yoga Class on Friday, June 19, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Seymour Cassadaga Library Branch. This class will incorporate slow, gentle movement. Please bring your own mat; some will be available for loan. Please RSVP to 716-595-3323. Tickets are available at the door, $5 for seniors and $10 for general admission.
Silver Creek Senior Citizens meet
SILVER CREEK -The Silver Creek Seniors met on May 26 with 32 people in attendance. President Randy Nurmi opened the meeting with all saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America. He was glad to have John Czuba and Bob Sutehall back, and welcomed guests Cindy Anger and Brooks and Debby Truitt. Earl Sheeler and Jeff Struwe manned the grill for hot dogs. Lunch also included several salads and desserts.
Winners of the door prizes were Anna Griem, Eleanor Lemiszko and Pauline Flitt. The 50-50 winners were Pauline, Brooks, Eleanor and Judy Hahn. Wheel of Fortune spins went to John, Ruth Sheeler (3 times), Janice Snyder and Al Wilson. Elaine Wojda called bingo and the winners were: Ruth, John (twice), Harry Suski (3 times), Debby (twice), Tony Borrello, Lorrie Newman, Janice (twice), Dixie Carlson, Pauline, and Al. Tuesday the group will have sundaes.
This senior group meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m., arrive by 12:30 p.m. Call Lorrie for information at 716-785-1074. Note: The group is inviting everyone 55 years of age or older to come and enjoy the fun.
Walking tours begin Saturday
JAMESTOWN — The Fenton History Center will once again present historic walking tours of Jamestown beginning Saturday through Aug. 29. The tours all start at 10 a.m., most starting at the Gov. Reuben E. Fenton Mansion, however some start at other points on the tour. The cost is $8 for members and $12 for non-members. Participants can pre-register online, in person at the Fenton, or by phone at 716-664-6256. There is a limit of 20 people for each tour. For the first time, history tour buffs can purchase a Full Circuit History Pass, which provides individual access to all Fenton Historic Walking Tours throughout the 2026 season. Each pass is valid for one person. The cost is $50 for members (regularly $56) and $80 (regularly $84) for non-members. Please consider membership if you are not currently a member and are interested in a number of the tours.
The first tour is about the iconic homes along Lakeview Avenue led by long-time Fenton member and former board member Cindy Rodgers. The tour begins at the Christ First United Methodist Church parking lot on Buffalo Street at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The tours throughout the summer are of Allen Park, Jamestown’s Hidden Alleys, Jamestown’s Industrial Past, a military tour of Lake View Cemetery, Lucy’s Downtown, Churches tour, and the Ladies of Lake View Cemetery. To see the full list and times, visit www.fentonhistorycenter.org/events.
Collins Library announces concerts
COLLINS — Collins Library is excited to announce the performers coming in the 2026 concert series! Things will kick off Friday at 7 p.m. with The Untouchables, featuring energetic tunes from the 50s to the 80s. The Skiffle Minstrels will be bringing Western Swing to the library on July 17. The Blue Mule Duo will perform some blue-grass and Americana on Aug. 7. Creek Bend will be playing classic country and more on Sept. 11. The final concert of the year will feature Paul Zittel and Pure Country on Friday, Oct. 2, and will coincide with the Friends of the Library Book Sale and Basket Raffle, so make sure you don’t miss it!
The concerts are sponsored by the Collins Public Library and the Friends of the Collins Public Library. The Collins Library is located at 2341 Main St. Concerts start at 7 p.m., with doors open at 6:30. All of the concerts are free and open to the public. Prescott Chapter of NSDAR meets
The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a regular business meeting on May 7 at the Barker Library in Fredonia
The Opening Ceremony was conducted by Regent Myra Johnston and Former Chaplin Lisa Sedlemayer, (as Deborah Cenni, present Chaplin was absent). The President General’s Message was about Continental Congress, featuring Patti LaBelle in concert in June.
The National Defender was read by Linda Kuzara about “Sargent Reckless” a decorated mare (female horse) in the Korean War. She carried ammunition and wounded soldiers up and down the mountain. She was wounded twice and received 2 Purple Hearts. There is a bronze statue in her honor at the National Museum of the Marines in Quantico, Virginia.
New Treasurer, Cheryl Smith, and she delivered the Treasurer’s Report.
A discussion about our America 250 celebration was held.
Decisions were made about summer events and we are planning a trip and lunch to Erie, Pa., to visit the Maritime Museum and boat ride on July 15, with a stop for lunch. A museum tour and lunch in the Cemetery for Aug. 26.
The next meeting will be on June 4 at the Patterson Library in Westfield at 4 p.m.
