First Amendment concert set for Sunday

On Sunday, Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment, an uplifting evening of song, solidarity, and action, will be streamed across the country, featuring an all-star lineup of performers. A Watch Party will be at the Unitarian Universalist building, 222 Temple St., Fredonia. Doors will open at 7 p.m., the concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30. This is a free event, open to the public. Light snacks will be provided as the concert is shown.

On the day when we give recognition to the Stars and Stripes, we celebrate the freedoms it represents, the freedoms guaranteed by our First Amendment — speech, religion, press, assembly and protest, and the people power that is essential to maintain them. This event will inspire and encourage meaningful action together as a community to protect those freedoms.

Sheridan VFW Auxiliary meets

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan VFW Auxiliary met June 8. The auxiliary members planned for the concert at the Sheridan Town building law on July 23 starting at 6 p.m. The Cassadaga Band will be playing.

Members will arrive by 5:30 to set up. The auxiliary is doing the hot dogs, drinks and chips this year. The Sheridan Historical society is doing the bake sale.

Upcoming events at the post are a gun raffle on Sept. 19. Doors open at noon and raffle begins at 1 p.m. There will also be a veteran appreciation event in October at the post. We are continuing the sale of Fowler’s candy bars and meat sticks at the post. These sales, along with the bake sales we hold, fund our monthly donations to worthy causes that impact our veterans. The theme for June is Flourishing Together. On Sunday, “Growing in the Light of Kindness and Compassion”, with Rev. Ron Skowronski, will be presented.

In the chaos of the current situation in our nation and the world, we seek to know how to grow beyond the status quo. Our minister will share how we can transcend the current situations and realize the beginnings of a much better way than we are currently experiencing, so simple that even a child can do it. In fact, many children already do.

If you attend in person, please bring a flower or a spring of greenery to share during our traditional Flower Communion ceremony. If you attend on Zoom, please have a flower, bud, or plant to share via Zoom.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua strives to be a vibrant, welcoming, multigenerational, diverse community enlivened by the power of radical love.
