Revitalize Dunkirk trail event
The Revitalize Dunkirk Trail committee is seeking volunteers to put wood chips on the Point Gratiot trail on July 22 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves and a shovel.
Genealogical Society meeting Wednesday
CASSADAGA — The Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will meet Wednesday at the Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280 at 228 Maple Ave.
The business meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the speaker will begin at 7. The public is invited to attend.
Cindy Washington Riggle is the speaker for the evening. She was raised in Cassadaga and now lives in Jamestown. Her presentation will be about her maternal grandfather, Alva Griffith from Indiana, who became a glassmaker, and his many journeys, including to other states and Canada, to pursue his trade and find work. He was a Veteran of World War I and Riggle will review a number of interesting war stories and has artifacts to display. Alva and his wife, Evelyn Mathis, finally settled in Sheridan. Their daughter Eleanor married Frederick Arthur “Art” Washington of Dunkirk, and they raised their family in Cassadaga.

Lakeshore Humane Society sets monthly meeting
The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a monthly general membership meeting on Thursday, July 16 at the Lakeshore Humane Society Adoption Center, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome. See www.lakeshorehumanesociety.org or call 716-672-1991 for information.
Silver Creek Senior Citizens meet
SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek Seniors met on July 7 with 20 people in attendance. President Randy Nurmi opened the meeting with all saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America. He then welcomed visitor Jay Clark. Peggy and Bruce led us through some fun exercises. The day was brown bag lunch day. The “sign in” winners were Harry Suski, Lorrie Newman and Joan Militello. The 50-50 winners were Eleanor Lemiszko, Jan Polisoto and Jay. Wheel of fortune lucky winners included Ginny Chesbro, Eleanor and Ruth Sheeler. Lorrie called bingo and the winners were: Don Munch, Joan Suski, John Czuba (3 times), Kim Munch, Eleanor, Carol Struwe and Janice Snyder.
Tuesday’s lunch will be pizza and sides. This senior group meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m., arrive by 12:30 p.m. Call Lorrie for information at 716-785-1074. Note: The group is inviting everyone 55 years of age or older to come and join in the fun.
