Hidden Alleys tour set for Saturday
JAMESTOWN -- The Fenton History Center's upcoming tour on Saturday at 10 a.m. is about Jamestown's Hidden Alleys.
Tucked away from view behind respectable facades, alleys were indispensable elements in American cities during the last half of the 19th century. The "impolite" realities of the industrial movement were hidden from Victorian society. Jamestown had five alleys - what are their stories? Learn about them on the Hidden Alleys tour.
Participants will meet at the Fenton History Center at 10. The tour is led by Fenton volunteer Cindy Dustin.
The cost is $8 for members and $12 for non-members. Participants can pre-register online, in person at the Fenton, or by phone at 716-664-6256. There is a limit of 20 people for each tour. Thank you to our sponsors Rodgers Land Surveying, Ahlstrom Schaeffer, and Weber Knapp.
The last tour of the summer is Saturday, August 29 in Lake View Cemetery at the corner of Buffalo St. and Lakeview Ave., titled the Ladies of Lake View Cemetery led by Fenton Trustee Janet Wahlberg and Jamestown City Historian Mike Rohlin.
