"Prelude to Artopia" opens at library

Fredonia's Darwin R. Barker Library is excited to announce its next local art exhibition, "Prelude to Artopia." A sophisticated prelude to the annual Artopia Auction and Gala (formerly Art and Wine) happening this Oct. 16, "Prelude to Artopia" features exceptional pieces available for acquisition, celebrating artists with developmental disabilities and empowering their voices through art.

The library will host an opening reception on Friday from 5 to 7p.m. All are welcome to enjoy light refreshments and chat with the artists. "Prelude to Artopia" can also be viewed during regular library hours from Tuesday to Oct. 31. The Darwin R. Barker Library is located at 7 Day Street, Fredonia.

Silver Creek Senior Citizens meet

SILVER CREEK - The Silver Creek Seniors met on Aug. with 27 members present.

Exercise with Peggy had many members working out. President Randy Nurmi then opened the meeting with all saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America. Chaplain Pauline Flitt read "Refresh Yourself" and offered a prayer for the members and the meal. Lunch consisted of sloppy joes, salads and brownies. The "sign in" winners were Al Wilson, Pauline, and Harry Suski. The 50-50 winners included Carol DePasquale, Eleanor Lemiszko and Judy Hahn. Wheel of fortune lucky winners included Jan Polisoto, Dixie Carlson (twice), Lorrie Newman (twice) and Joan M. Lorrie called bingo and the winners were: Pauline, Ruth Sheeler (3 times), Annette Hoeber, Al (twice), Carol Struwe, John Czuba, Judy, Dixie, and Joan Suski.

On Tuesday, members are to bring their own brown bag lunches. (cook's day off!). This senior group meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m., arrive by 12:30 p.m. Call Lorrie for information at 716-785-1074. Note: The group is inviting everyone 55 years of age or older to come and join in the fun!
