Chicken barbecue benefits pantries
A chicken barbecue will be today at the D & F Plaza from 11:30 a.m. until sold out. It is sponsored by Forestville Chapter 247, Order of the Eastern Star, State of New York. Cost is $15 for a full dinner and $10 for a half chicken and roll with butter.
Proceeds to benefit local food pantries in Forestville, Silver Creek, Fredonia and Dunkirk, as well as other local charities.
Blood drive being held in Westfield
WESTFIELD - With football season officially underway, the Community Blood Bank is calling all sports fans to help tackle blood shortages in our community! Throughout September, all donors will be entered to win a pair of tickets to a regular season NFL game of their choice. This exciting giveaway aims to rally community support and bolster the blood supply as we move into a new season.
All blood types are needed. Donating blood is a safe and simple process, typically taking less than an hour from registration to recovery. Donors are encouraged to hydrate well before their appointment and bring a valid ID for the event at Westfield Memorial Hospital on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Appointments are encouraged to reduce your wait time but are not required. Walk-ins will be taken as space allows.

Auxiliary to meet on Grape Fest
SILVER CREEK -- The Samuel Cimino VFW Post 6472 Auxiliary will hold a monthly meeting at the post at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Members are encouraged to attend. The auxiliary will be participating in the Festival of Grapes Parade on Sunday Sept. 20, and we need a count of members to give the convertible driver(s). Steel retirees gather Saturday
The Al Tech, Dunkirk Specialty Steel Retirees will meet on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Central Station Restaurant in Dunkirk. The group meets the first Saturday of every month. All retirees are invited to join us.
